The Stool Test and Medicines

Image
I knew that I was going to have to get a little detailed at some point because of my topic. This blog post is about what some people will receive at most digestive health specialists that you will have to do at home.     I’m also going to give an example of what types of medicine that is out there. For disorders below the diaphragm, Gastroenterologist has to deal with conditions that affect the intestines, the colon and other organs. There is a test given to you, so they can test your stool and see if you have blood in your sample. Blood is very bad, by the way. It means that you could have a very serious case and you might have cancer. The test that I got was ColoScreen , a test for fecal occult blood that is issued by the developers, Helena Laboratories. It’s a guaiac slide test to recognize fecal occult blood. It also is used to detect Colon cancer.    This test is also short for FOBT. There are two other tests called FIT (Fecal Immunoche...

GERD and Others

I only briefly talked about what GERD was in my Acid reflux blog post and now I’m doing that. I promised to explain more about it, but I also want to include some other conditions that are similar to GERD and Acid reflux. I hope I don’t get you too confused because that’s not my intent. Okay, I said in the post about Acid reflux that GERD or Gastroesophageal reflux disease happens when people get the symptoms of reflux every day. There is no one cause of GERD, but the main one is when stomach acid comes up to the esophagus. The normal symptoms of GERD are heartburn, regurgitation and nausea. The more complex symptoms is developing Barrett’s esophagus, having a cough, an inflammation in the throat and lungs and fluid inside your ear. Barrett’s esophagus only happens if GERD becomes chronic. The lining of the esophagus starts developing a new tissue that is similar to the lining in the intestines. There is still no knowledge of why this happens and there is varies ...

The stomach has a mucus-like lining on the inside that can protect from Gastric acid, but not all the time.         Peptic ulcers are sores that is produced where the mucus-like lining starts to be eaten away by a bacterium called Helicobacter pylori or H. pylori . It also effects the duodenum, which is the first part of the small intestine. What could cause an ulcer: · ...

What Acid reflux Is

It was two days before my 22 nd birthday when I told my mom I need to go to the ER because I was getting worse. For four days, I experienced the worse pain that I’ve ever been in. I couldn’t take a breath without curling into a ball from the pain that shoot down my spine. I had to unintentionally starve myself during the time because eating and drinking anything caused a painful sensation in my chest and back.   I missed most of my classes and I barely got any sleep. I should have gone to the doctors earlier, but I kept thinking I would get better. I had to put my foot down that Friday night and get my mom to drive me to the ER. My ER trip was April 8, 2016 and I was there for four hours. The result was a flare up from Acid reflux. A bad one. I know this might be a light sentence from someone who has a terminal disease that is slowly killing them from the inside, but it meant something to me. After what happened, I decided to find out more about Acid reflux. I ...
